BurnPeanut Causes Drama After Winning VTuber Award
The VTubing community is divided after TheBurntPeanut, who often jokes about not being a traditional VTuber, was named VTuber of the Year at the 2025 Streamer Awards.
QTCinderella’s annual event returned with another year of creator celebrations. While IShowSpeed earned the top honor of Streamer of the Year, the VTuber category quickly became the main point of discussion.
A Unique Nominee Among Familiar Faces
The list of nominees featured well known creators such as Ironmouse, Mori Calliope, Kenji, and chibidoki.
TheBurntPeanut stood out as the fifth nominee, known for his success in extraction shooters and his unconventional avatar.
Rather than an anime inspired design, he appears as an anthropomorphic peanut, which has fueled plenty of conversation.
Fan Voting Pushes Peanut to the Top
Despite the mixed reactions, Peanut won the category. Fan votes heavily influence results at The Streamer Awards, and his rapidly growing audience, known as the Bungulators, provided enough support to secure the win.
For some viewers, the outcome was disappointing. They argued the award show had lost credibility or questioned how someone who does not fully identify as a VTuber could win the top VTuber award.
Peanut has previously stated he does not see himself as a traditional VTuber, although he treats that idea as a running joke among his community.
Criticism From Within the Community
Several creators voiced frustration about the result. VTuber Maple Chicken said they respect Peanut’s work but felt disheartened that the award went to someone who does not consider himself part of the VTubing community. They expressed concern that the win reflected a lack of seriousness toward the category.
Well Known VTubers Defend the Win
Not all feedback was negative. Many prominent VTubers congratulated Peanut and pushed back against the criticism. Mori Calliope publicly celebrated his win, while Ironmouse said she cringed at the backlash and noted that every nominee deserved their place.
