Ex-Rockstar Dev Says GTA 6 Likely Won’t Cost $100

With Grand Theft Auto 6 now delayed to November 19, 2026, discussion around the game has once again shifted to its potential price.

Rumors claiming Rockstar could charge $100 for the base version have fueled debate across the industry, with some suggesting GTA 6 could set a new pricing standard for AAA releases.

Former Rockstar Games animator Mike York, however, believes those concerns are overblown. Speaking to Esports Insider, York said he doesn’t expect Rockstar to be “greedy” with the game’s pricing, pointing to the massive sales the title is already guaranteed to achieve.

Why a $70 base price makes more sense

According to York, GTA 6 will likely launch at the standard $70 price point seen with most modern AAA releases. He explained that Rockstar doesn’t need to push a higher entry cost when the game will sell tens of millions of copies regardless. Charging $100, he said, would risk leaving a bad impression on fans without offering meaningful benefits.

York did note that Rockstar could still experiment with premium editions. He suggested a $99 deluxe or day-one version tied to GTA Online perks, such as bonus content or early advantages, could be possible.

Even so, he expects the core experience to remain accessible at the usual price.

Rockstar and Take-Two remain quiet

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has avoided confirming any specific price, previously stating that Rockstar aims to deliver value that exceeds what players pay.

Industry figures, including Larian Studios’ Michael Douse, have also commented that many publishers are waiting to see what Rockstar does before adjusting their own pricing strategies.

In addition to discussing pricing, York shared confidence that GTA 6 won’t face further delays beyond its current 2026 release window.
