Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Faces Backlash Over Microtransactions

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has arrived to generally favorable reviews, especially from English-speaking players where it holds a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam.
However, when looking at feedback across all languages, the overall sentiment drops to “Mixed,” revealing a more divided player base.
Many players have applauded the remake’s visual improvements, refined combat system, and smoother controls. Despite this, criticism has emerged alongside the praise.
Microtransactions Spark Player Frustration
While some negative reviews mention technical issues, a large portion of complaints focus on the game’s monetization. Players have expressed frustration over the volume and pricing of additional content available at launch.
Although cosmetic purchases have been a part of the franchise since Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017, their presence in this remake, where they didn’t exist in the original so many were caught off guard.
Several players who purchased premium editions feel misled. Many expected a complete experience upfront, only to encounter a significant amount of extra paid content immediately upon starting the game.
This has led to disappointment, especially among those who assumed higher-priced editions would include all available content. And honestly, you should assume that at this price.
Ubisoft Responds to Criticism
In response to the growing number of negative Steam reviews, Ubisoft has begun addressing player concerns directly. The company emphasized that all purchasable add-ons are entirely optional.
According to Ubisoft, the base version of Black Flag Resynced already includes the full experience, covering the entire story, all missions, and the complete game world—with nothing locked behind additional purchases.
They reassured players that the extra content is designed for those who want additional customization, not as a requirement to progress or fully enjoy the game. Ubisoft also stated they are actively reviewing community feedback following the game’s launch.
