Take-Two Seeks GTA 6 Leaker Records
Take-Two Interactive has asked a New York federal court to approve subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord as part of its search for the person behind the recent GTA 6 leaks.
The company wants both platforms to provide records that could reveal the identity of Cyberleek, the name used to publish unreleased gameplay and map details.
Take-Two Takes Its Search to Court
Take-Two filed two requests on August 20. One was directed at Microsoft, while the other targeted Discord.
The company asked for the records to be provided by September 4.
At the time of publication, the court had not publicly confirmed whether either subpoena had been approved or issued. Microsoft and Discord had also not responded to the requests.
What Is a DMCA Subpoena?
The filings do not accuse Microsoft or Discord of taking part in the GTA 6 leaks.
Take-Two is using a process available under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. This allows copyright owners to request information that may identify someone suspected of sharing protected material without permission.
The goal is to find the person or group behind Cyberleek, not to accuse the platforms that may hold their account information.
Microsoft Could Hand Over Account Records
Take-Two is asking Microsoft for internal business and investigation records linked to Cyberleek.
The request includes information about users who may have communicated in several Discord servers connected to the leaks since June 1.
Take-Two is seeking details such as:
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Login IP addresses
- Linked Google accounts
- Linked Xbox accounts
- Device identifiers
- Microsoft telemetry records
- Relevant OneDrive files
The company also wants records that could show which computers or Xbox accounts accessed the leaked material.
This includes information showing whether certain files or programs appeared on those devices, along with any GTA, Rockstar, or Cyberleek files stored on OneDrive.
Discord Accounts Are Also Being Investigated
The Discord filing names Cyberleek alongside CinematicRockstar and Surfer24k, two other online accounts that Take-Two is investigating for possible links to the leaks.
It also lists cyberleek_west and surwest as replacement names connected to Surfer24k.
The request covers the Ødyssey.gg and Odyssey communities, as well as a server used by editors working with GTA YouTuber Matthew “DarkViperAU” Judge.
The inclusion of a server or community does not mean its owner or every member is being accused of anything. Take-Two is asking for records that may help identify the person responsible for sharing the material.
Neither filing publicly names the person behind Cyberleek.
GitHub Is Part of the Investigation
Documents included with the filings offer another clue about how wide Take-Two’s search has become.
The Microsoft request includes a GitHub DMCA notice as evidence. The Discord request also contains earlier takedown notices sent to Discord.
This shows that Take-Two’s investigation has included at least one GitHub takedown request, along with attempts to obtain records from Discord, Xbox, and OneDrive.
However, the documents do not reveal where the leaked GTA 6 material originally came from or who first accessed it.
Cyberleek Used the Leaks to Promote a Coin
Cyberleek appeared after unreleased GTA 6 gameplay and map information began spreading online in August.
The person or group behind the account also used the attention to promote a meme coin. Cyberleek branding and references to the coin appeared alongside some of the leaked footage.
Take-Two is now trying to connect the online accounts, devices, cloud files, and login records that may lead back to the person responsible.
At the time of publication, neither Microsoft nor Discord had filed a response to Take-Two’s requests.
