Rockstar Responds to Major GTA 6 Leaks
Rockstar Games has responded to the wave of GTA 6 gameplay leaks shared by CyberLeek, describing the situation as “heartbreaking” ahead of the game’s official Extended Look.
The leaks began appearing on August 18, just over a week before Rockstar’s planned GTA 6 presentation on Netflix.
Since then, several clips have spread online, revealing possible details about combat, driving, minigames, Vice City, radio stations and other gameplay systems.
Rockstar Addresses the GTA 6 Leaks
Rockstar and parent company Take-Two issued a statement on August 26, apologizing for not responding sooner and acknowledging that the leaks may have spoiled parts of the experience for fans.
“We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow,” the statement reads. “It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.”
Rockstar added that it hopes players will avoid the leaked footage and wait to experience the game properly when it launches.
“While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers, we hope that everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19,” the company said.
The statement confirms that the Extended Look will still go ahead as planned despite the amount of footage now circulating online.
CyberLeek Has Taunted Rockstar
CyberLeek has repeatedly used the leaked footage to provoke Rockstar and draw attention to the releases.
One clip reportedly includes a cutscene about characters avoiding the police. Another shows a player firing an assault rifle at a wall to create a message referencing the leaker.
The videos have revealed far more than short pieces of unfinished footage. They appear to show complete gameplay systems, including vehicle mechanics, police searches, combat animations, basketball, aircraft and radio selection.
CyberLeek has also used the attention surrounding the leaks to promote a cryptocurrency project.
GTA 6 Has Suffered Major Leaks Before
This is not the first time footage from GTA 6’s development has appeared online.
In 2022, hacker Arion Kurtaj released dozens of early development clips featuring Jason and Lucia. The footage showed the characters interacting with NPCs, robbing stores and stealing items from containers.
Kurtaj was later sentenced to remain in a secure hospital indefinitely until doctors determine that he is no longer a threat.
However, the CyberLeek releases are among the most significant GTA 6 leaks since that incident, both because of the amount of footage involved and how close they arrived to Rockstar’s official presentation.
Rockstar’s GTA 6 Extended Look is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 27. The full game is currently set to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
