Rockstar Confirms Major GTA 6 Features

Rockstar Games has confirmed several major GTA 6 gameplay features, including more realistic NPCs, changing character bodies, working social media feeds, and a deeper relationship system for Jason and Lucia.
Many of these details previously appeared in retailer listings and leaks. However, interviews with senior Rockstar developers have now provided official information about how the systems will work.
Vice City Will React to Player Behavior
Rockstar wants GTA 6 to feel more grounded and responsive than its previous open-world games.
Players will not be able to carry large weapons through public areas without attracting attention. Walking around Vice City with a rifle, for example, will cause nearby people to react.
This suggests that weapons may need to be concealed or stored when players want to move through the city without creating suspicion.
NPCs have also been designed to look, move, speak, and express themselves more naturally.
Leonida’s population will feature a wide variety of ages, heights, body types, tattoos, piercings, cosmetic procedures, and clothing styles.
A person’s appearance will also reflect where they live. Residents of Little Cuba will have a different style from people found around the more remote Mount Kalaga National Park.
This should help individual parts of the map feel like distinct communities instead of different areas being filled with the same collection of character models.
Jason and Lucia Can Gain Weight
GTA 6 will expand on the physical transformation systems used in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The food Jason and Lucia eat will affect their weight, while exercising will visibly build and tone their muscles.
Their faces can change as well. Staying awake for long periods, whether because the characters are hiding from police or spending several days partying, will leave visible signs on their appearance.
Haircuts, clothing, fitness, eating habits, and sleep will all affect how the protagonists look during the story.
Instead of operating as hidden statistics, the player’s lifestyle choices will be reflected directly through Jason and Lucia.
“We want to enable as much self-expression as possible, without losing the essence of the characters,” Rockstar North head of development Rob Nelson explained.
Jason and Lucia’s Relationship Affects Gameplay
The relationship between Jason and Lucia will play a larger role than simply connecting them through the story.
Players can keep the pair together or allow them to operate independently. A flexible character-switching system will let players move between Jason and Lucia during missions and while exploring the open world.
In one example, Jason drives along a highway while Lucia uses her phone from the passenger seat. If the police begin chasing them, the player can switch between driving the vehicle and firing at pursuing officers through the window.
The pair can also travel together on vehicles such as jet skis. Their animations and behavior will change depending on the condition of their relationship.
Rockstar says decisions involving Jason and Lucia can have consequences that go deeper than the morality and Honor systems featured in its previous games.
Social Media Will Be Part of the World
GTA 6 will include functioning social media feeds that players can browse using the in-game phone.
The rise of rap duo Real Dimez will play out through viral posts, allowing players to watch parts of Leonida’s culture develop online as the story progresses.
Previous retailer listings claimed that social networks could help players follow influencers, discover events, and find hidden side missions.
Rockstar has not confirmed all of those claims, but it has verified that functional feeds and viral storylines will be part of the game.
Social media is expected to make Leonida feel more connected, with events in the world potentially appearing online and online trends influencing what players encounter.
Rockstar Has Expanded Its Development Team
Rockstar has invested heavily in creating a more detailed and believable open world.
The development team working on GTA 6 has reportedly grown to more than twice the size of the team behind Red Dead Redemption 2.
One of Rockstar’s Los Angeles teams is almost entirely focused on NPC development.
More than 50 real street artists were also brought in to create murals for the game, while professional race-car drivers helped Rockstar develop its vehicle handling.
These details show how much work is being placed into parts of the world that players may otherwise take for granted, from how crowds behave to how individual neighborhoods look and how cars feel on the road.
Some Leaked Features Remain Unconfirmed
Earlier leaks claimed GTA 6 would include hundreds of accessible stores, vehicle weapon storage, dynamic weather, advanced police systems, and the return of a six-star Wanted level.
Other reports described missions involving both protagonists and a denser open world with more activities.
Rockstar’s latest comments support some of the wider claims about NPC intelligence, character switching, social media, and a reactive world.
However, the company has not officially confirmed every feature mentioned in retailer listings or leaked material.
