Setups - Attack
The attacking side on Icebox can be pretty tough, although you have many angles to peek from and duel it’s still dependent on performance and coordination. Without proper smokes or setups, you will find yourself completely outnumbered by defenders peeking you from everywhere. That’s why you should follow these setups that will elevate your gameplay:
A Control
In this set up you should be aiming to obtain complete site control with your smokes. Brimstone has 3 smokes, but that doesn’t mean you need to use all of them when you’re executing. There are always chances of you needing to rotate or needing to have a resmoke against the defenders retaking the site.
Simply smoke screens and rafters and keep your smokes deep for rafters but far for screens.
A Default
This is the default set up when you’re attacking A. In this case, we do assume that you have a sage on your team to wall before plant, as this is the most efficient way in most circumstances. Simply molly screens & rafters which will prevent early peeks and force defenders in that area to move into Generator. Which you will molly for extra cover.
A Menace
If you just want to push A from the depth of your heart and you are well determined to take the site no matter what, use this set up. Smoke Rafters and backsite as well as next to nest then molly that area as shown in the picture.
With a 5 man push like that, chances that you would be stopped are few.
B Post Plant
B site is known for how strong it is for a post plant scenario. In this set up you aim to get the plant as fast as possible and backing off to play off any line up utility whether it be by saving your molly or having another line up larry on the team.
This is effective if you’re playing without a Sage, as your smokes should act like the wall cover substitute.
B Control
An alternative way to execute B site is by taking full control. This is especially useful if you’re in a player disadvantage scenario, as then you will need to push and be more aggressive to equalize the circumstances. Smoke top site, snowman and orange link.
By peeking from Danger you already have an off angle ready for your enemies, while this might go both ways it is a better play if you’re down in player numbers.
Mid To A
Mid is one of the most important factors in Icebox, taking control of it can completely mess up your enemy’s defense lines. Here’s a good way to execute Mid To A
Smoke Boiler and the way into site from screens as shown in the picture above, you can possibly molly that too if you’re worried about anybody walking out of it to catch a timing. Finally smoke Rafters and you’ll get full cover into site.
Mid To B
You can as well push from Mid to B by smoking Mid, Kitchen and Snow Man. There you have full cover up until you get into site. Except from top site which if you’re pushing as a team you definitely should be able to look out for.
Setups - Defense
Icebox is easier played on defense but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will always be on your side. If you don’t learn the best set ups to hold sites down you might find yourself in a situation where it’s impossible to deny enemies from taking space on you. And that’s why we will now show you the best set ups to force your enemies into backing off your site:
I am running a few minutes late; my previous meeting is running over.
No Aim Duels
We call this the No Aim Duel set up simply because it block any vision that the attackers can have to possibly challenge you into an aim duel early in the round. In icebox, when you’re attacking you usually aim for entries before executing sites and with this you completely stop them from doing that unless they push through the choke point which you already have mollied.
A Resistance
When the attacking team is executing your site you have two options, you either leave site and respect the space they demanded and then play for a retake with your team or you stay will put and fight for site. Each has its times but in this specific set up you will definitely be resistant to the push. Smoke Close Belt, both openings for Maze and molly generator.
B Aggressive
The best defense is a good offense. If you believe in that, you can smoke both openings from B long and hold that down with a teammate or just peek off the steps you hear. Mollying here isn’t optimal as you don’t have a clear way to apply that on all attackers.
B Default
The most common way to defend B is by smoking both openings from Yellow and mollying default when you hear the spike plant. You can as well just molly the smoke but we find that not beneficial, enemies will likely wait your smokes off to push again trying to plant and there you can use your molly for extra damage.
Mid Aggressive
If you have a teammate that is willing to go down tube, you can smoke and molly for them just like so. Make sure you give them space to walk out of tube without being mollied and they will have an expected position in Mid.
