Steam Machine Release Date

Valve has confirmed that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset are expected to begin shipping during summer 2026. The company is also expanding its game compatibility system so players can easily see which titles are ready for the new hardware.
In an update published on June 4, Valve explained how developers can prepare their games for both devices and how compatibility information will appear to customers on Steam.
Valve Expands Its Verification System
The new system is based on the Steam Deck Verified program, which tells players whether a game works properly on the handheld without requiring complicated changes or manual fixes.
Similar compatibility labels will now be introduced for Steam Machine and Steam Frame. This should make it easier for players to know whether a game supports the hardware before purchasing or installing it.
Valve will examine several areas, including controller support, graphical settings and general performance. Games that work well on Steam Deck are also expected to function properly on Steam Machine without developers needing to make additional changes.
Games That Struggle on Steam Deck May Still Work
Steam Machine will offer more powerful hardware than Steam Deck, meaning some games that failed to meet the handheld’s performance standards could still receive approval for the new system.
Valve explained that a title may perform poorly on Steam Deck because of CPU or GPU limitations while still running smoothly on Steam Machine.
Developers will not need to manually submit these games for another review. Valve is already testing titles that failed to meet Steam Deck’s performance requirements to determine how they run on Steam Machine.
This means games that experienced low frame rates or other technical problems on Steam Deck could still be considered fully compatible with Valve’s upcoming PC.
Steam Frame Gets Separate Compatibility Standards
Valve also revealed new verification requirements for Steam Frame, its standalone VR headset.
The device will be able to stream games from a computer, but it can also run supported titles directly through SteamOS without being connected to a PC.
Steam Frame Standalone Verified will focus specifically on the experience when a game runs natively on the headset. Valve will review areas such as graphical performance, interface readability, text clarity and controller support.
These labels should help users understand whether a VR title works properly in standalone mode or requires a connected PC for the best experience.
Shipping Begins This Summer
Valve has not announced exact release dates for either device. However, the company confirmed that Steam Machine and Steam Frame are both scheduled to begin shipping sometime during summer 2026.
