GTA 6 delayed again?
Another GTA 6 delay would be a painful twist this close to release. And Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s latest explanation for Rockstar’s previous postponements comes with a reminder: meeting a deadline means little if the game arrives broken.
That does not mean another delay has been announced. Rockstar still lists November 19, 2026, as GTA 6’s release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. But Zelnick’s comments explain why the company accepted a longer wait in the first place.
Why another GTA 6 delay makes such an effective scare
After two postponements, fans have plenty of reasons to feel nervous about release dates. Rockstar has already pushed back its return to Vice City to give the development team additional time to polish the experience.
Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Zelnick defended those difficult decisions. His argument was that a company’s commitment to quality has to survive the moment when keeping that commitment becomes expensive or inconvenient.
He also questioned the wisdom of being “slavishly devoted to a schedule,” pointing to the consequences of releasing a major game before it is ready. His comments concerned the reasoning behind the previous delays, rather than an announcement of another change.
The Cyberpunk 2077 comparison behind Zelnick’s warning
Zelnick stopped short of naming a rival. Instead, he described a prominent release that ran into such serious problems that it was pulled from sale after launch.
The apparent reference was Cyberpunk 2077, which was temporarily removed from the PlayStation Store following its troubled December 2020 debut. Refunds were also offered as players encountered substantial technical issues.
CD Projekt Red eventually rebuilt the game’s reputation through updates, but that recovery followed a launch that became a cautionary example across the industry.
For GTA 6, the implication is straightforward: extra development time carries a cost, but a disappointing release could create a much bigger problem. That is an interpretation of Zelnick’s argument, not evidence of another postponement.
Is GTA 6 actually being delayed again?
The cited interview provides no announcement of a third delay, and Rockstar’s official website continues to advertise November 19.
The distinction matters. Defending an earlier postponement does not establish that another one is coming.
