Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has put his Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $70 million, exactly what he paid for the property nearly 12 years ago.

Persson bought the estate in December 2014, shortly after Microsoft acquired Mojang for $2.5 billion. The purchase reportedly saw him outbid Beyoncé and Jay-Z and set a Beverly Hills residential sales record at the time.

Now, the property is back up for sale with an unchanged asking price.

Notch’s $70 million mansion comes with a nightclub and candy room

Located in Beverly Hills’ exclusive Trousdale Estates neighborhood, the 22,300-square-foot mansion features eight bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and sweeping views stretching from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean.

Its amenities include a 2,500-bottle wine cellar and the candy room that attracted attention when Persson purchased the home. During his ownership, he also added a recording studio and a private nightclub equipped with a DJ booth.

The estate ranks among Los Angeles County’s most expensive residential listings this year, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Although the asking price matches its 2014 purchase price, that does not mean the property has already sold or that Persson will recover the full amount.

The newspaper noted that median Los Angeles home prices more than doubled over the period, while the market for properties at the very top has cooled.

Listing agent Aaron Kirman said buyers shopping at this level want distinctive homes with features that are difficult to recreate.

The listing prompted speculation on social media because of its timing ahead of a California vote on a proposed billionaire tax.

However, Kirman offered a simpler explanation when speaking to The Wall Street Journal: Persson spends little time in Los Angeles and is committed to selling the property.
