Valorant disables Cypher after Spycam bug returns

Cypher has been temporarily disabled in Valorant after players discovered a returning bug involving his Spycam that gave them an unfair advantage during matches.

Valorant’s Agent lineup is constantly being adjusted by Riot Games, usually through balance changes such as buffs and nerfs. When an Agent becomes too strong or causes problems in the meta, Riot often steps in to bring them back in line.

Sometimes, however, the issue is not balance at all. Certain bugs have forced Riot to completely remove Agents from play until a fix is ready. Neon was recently taken out of the game after a Fast Lane bug allowed players to see through walls, while Omen has also been disabled in the past due to game-breaking issues.

This time, Cypher is the one being pulled from active play after an old Spycam bug resurfaced.

Classic Cypher Spycam bug returns

The problem began gaining attention on May 28, when clips started circulating showing players interacting with Cypher’s camera in a way that clearly was not intended.

In the videos, players appeared to throw a weapon at the Spycam and then use it to fire from the camera’s position.

The bug is not entirely new, which made its return even more noticeable among longtime Valorant players.

Riot developer Penguin acknowledged the issue on X, joking about the bug’s comeback while confirming that Cypher had been disabled.

“Not this s*it again… we’re on it, Cypher’s been disabled for now,” the Valorant game designer wrote, also comparing the moment to other strange past bugs such as the rideable Recon Dart.

When will Cypher return to Valorant?

Riot has not yet confirmed exactly when Cypher will return to the Agent pool. Neon’s recent removal lasted a few days before she was brought back with Patch 12.09, so players will be hoping Cypher’s fix arrives just as quickly.
