Riot Games is cracking down on players who use instalock tools and stream sniping to gain an unfair advantage in VALORANT, with repeat offenders now facing permanent game bans.

The new enforcement measures were announced as part of VALORANT Patch 13.05. Although the update was relatively light on major balance changes, its player behavior section included a significant warning for anyone relying on external tools to manipulate matches.

“We've started rolling out penalties if we detect usage of stream sniping and instalock tools,” Riot said. “Players found using these tools will be subject to temporary game bans that will escalate to permanent with repeated usage.”

Instalock tools are third-party programs designed to select and lock an Agent almost immediately after the Agent Select screen becomes available.

These tools can give users an artificial speed advantage over players selecting their Agents normally.

This is especially noticeable when multiple players want a popular Agent, as the tool can potentially secure the character before another player has a realistic opportunity to react.

Importantly, Riot is targeting the use of instalock tools, not players who simply select an Agent quickly using the regular game client.

Manually locking Jett, Reyna, or another Agent as soon as Agent Select begins may frustrate teammates, but Riot’s announcement does not suggest that ordinary instalocking will result in a ban. The penalties apply when external software or automation is detected.
