Nearly half of new Steam games now disclose AI-generated content

AI disclosures are becoming increasingly common on Steam, with a new analysis finding that 49.9% of games released in October 2026 reported using AI-generated content.
That is almost double the 26.4% recorded in October 2025, and a substantial increase from the 1.7% reported when Valve introduced mandatory disclosures in January 2024.
The findings come from Reddit user u/ploz, who examined publicly available Steam data covering approximately 63,600 games released since January 2024.
Steam AI disclosures reach their highest monthly share
According to the analysis, the percentage of new releases carrying AI disclosures has risen each year.
In 2024, 13.2% of games disclosed AI-generated content. That increased to 24% in 2025 and reached 40.1% across 2026 so far. October’s 49.9% was the highest monthly figure in the dataset.
The findings also showed a considerable gap between games with few reviews and those attracting more player feedback.
Among 2026 releases with fewer than 10 Steam reviews, 47% disclosed AI use. For games with at least 1,000 reviews, the figure was 14%.
Developers publishing more games were also more likely to report using AI. Those with at least 10 releases in 2026 disclosed it in 68% of their games, compared with 37% for developers who released just one.
Artwork leads the reported uses of AI
Artwork was the most common use identified in the analysis, appearing in 63% of disclosures.
Text and translations followed at 30%, while store page content and marketing materials appeared in 26%. Music accounted for 21%, and code appeared in 16%.
AI-generated voices were less common, featuring in 7% of disclosures. Just 3% of games reported generating AI content during gameplay.
Running those features can also come with significant costs. In October, one developer took out a bank loan to keep a free Steam demo available after its daily AI bill climbed to around $1,000.
Disclosures do not capture every game using AI
The figures measure disclosed AI use, so they cannot establish exactly how many Steam games contain AI-generated content. Games whose developers have not reported using it are absent from that count.
Valve’s requirements have also changed during the period covered by the analysis.
In January 2026, the company updated its disclosure rules to focus on AI-generated content players can see or hear, rather than tools used behind the scenes during development.
