Interview with Apeks Michał “MOLSI” Łącki
Yoann: Hey, hello everyone! Today I’m with MOLSI, Valorant pro player for Apeks!
How would you introduce yourself?
MOLSI: Hey! I’m Molsi, I’m 27 years old, and I’m the in-game leader for team Apeks!
Yoann: Nice! When and how did you get into esports?
MOLSI: It was a long road, on CS 1.6 in 2010. I’ve been in the industry for almost 14 years!
It started with my neighbor, who introduced me to Counter Strike Condition Zero, around 2006. I didn’t have a PC, so I was coming to his house to play, good old times!
Yoann: That’s amazing! You joined Apeks for the Challengers 2024 season, how's it going so far?
MOLSI: It’s going pretty well in the league, we had one bad tournament in Egypt. We weren’t prepared at all for this event, we started practicing 3 or 4 days before. But everything is going well right now, we have great chemistry in the team!
Yoann: Awesome! What did you learn during the last VCT season with Vitality?
MOLSI: The most important for me is learning that you should also focus on the things outside of the game. I had to move to Berlin after living in the same place for 26 years, it was a big change for me.
I didn’t have my current routines, but I learned to focus on important things outside the game because it also impacts the way you play.
Yoann: Yeah, for sure! What changed for you since you've joined Apeks?
MOLSI: The biggest change is that I’m now IGLing, I only had little experience in this role. I was sometimes the second caller on OG London United, and I also tried CSGO. I’m getting older, so being the in-game leader can help me transfer to coaching in a few years time. I want to be in the esports industry for as long as I can, I was there from almost the beginning!
Yoann: How would you describe Apeks' playstyle?
MOLSI: I’d say we are an aggressive team, with good strats! I can IGL from the stratbook, I can call off of reads, we have good teamwork, and we have experienced players coming from Tier 1.
Yoann: Great! As you said, you have a very strong roster with experienced players, what are your expectations for the season?
MOLSI: We want to win Ascension, like every team playing in the league. But I like going step-by-step, for now, I want to win the first split of Polaris. Then, we’ll aim at the second split, and then at Ascension. I prefer a step-by-step approach!
Yoann: What are the main skills an initiator should have in pro play, what advice can you give?
MOLSI: You need to be vocal for sure, it doesn’t matter your role, you have to be vocal in the team. You also have to like your role, I feel like some teams put players in the wrong roles, you need to enjoy the game, if you don’t, change your role!
Yoann: For sure! Let’s now move on to the Quick Questions part! I’ll ask you 10 quick questions, and you'll have to answer as fast as possible, ready?
MOLSI: Ready!
Yoann: Phantom or Vandal?
MOLSI: Vandal!
Yoann: What's your favorite map?
MOLSI: Icebox!
Yoann: What's your favorite agent?
MOLSI: Neon!
Yoann: What's your favorite skin collection?
MOLSI: The Neo-frontier, I’m in love with the sheriff!
Yoann: What's your best memory as an esports player?
MOLSI: Qualifying for the Los Angeles LAN in CSGO back in 2020.
Yoann: Who are the players who inspired you?
MOLSI: Neo, from Counter-Strike 1.6!
Yoann: Can you name the eight teams that won an international event?
MOLSI: Fnatic, Loud, Sentinels, EG… Four more… Acend, Gambit, FPX, and NRG?
Yoann: It was NRG’s core, Optic! Great job! Which team would you like to play against in the grand final of Ascension?
MOLSI: Job Life!
Yoann: What kind of music do you listen to to get in the zone?
MOLSI: Mostly German rap!
Yoann: Can you quote a voice line from your favorite agent?
MOLSI: Oh, not from Neon, I’m not playing this agent! But I remember Sage saying “We are Valorant, we are fighters”!
Yoann: That’s right! Let’s now get back to the standard questions! What are your hobbies or passions aside from gaming?
MOLSI: Going to the gym 3 times per week, back when I was in Berlin, I used to walk a lot. But it’s a bit too dark in Poland right now.
Yoann: Haha sure! How do you feel about the Valorant meta and map pool after the recent updates?
MOLSI: I think the current meta is balanced, we have some maps with Cypher and others with Killjoy, we don’t have to play the same duelist on every map! I like that teams are more open-minded. You don’t always need to play the same comp, which is nice!
Yoann: What would you change to the game if you were a developer?
MOLSI: I would remove the pings, just so that you can’t ping on the map to spam the spike for example. This thing makes me angry, it’s just making the game easier. I would also focus on the deathmatches, it’s unplayable right now. I would also remove Ascent, and never bring it back, this map is so boring!
Yoann: Yeah, I understand! What makes Apeks a title contender for 2024 Ascension?
MOLSI: Experience for sure! The aim star Kajaak, he might not be experienced, but he’s insane at his role! Good chemistry in the team, we’re always laughing! We also have a great coaching staff, everything is going well, we’re like family!
Yoann: That’s amazing! What advice would you give to someone willing to become a Valorant pro?
MOLSI: Just play! As I always say, whenever you want to achieve something, you just need to focus on yourself! There are no shortcuts, back in CSGO, I was playing a ton of deathmatches, it was a lot of work to do, but it was worth it! Just play, focus on yourself, and don’t tilt in ranked!
Yoann: What are your short and long-term ambitions on Valorant?
MOLSI: As I said before, I want to go step-by-step. For this year, I want to focus on Ascension, qualify for VCT next year, and play with this team! That’s the main goal!
I don’t know how next year will go, but I want to play for at least 3 more years!
Yoann: That’s great! Is there anything else you would like to say?
MOLSI: Thanks to everyone cheering for us! Keep playing the game, and maybe one day you’ll be the one playing on the stage!
Yoann: Amazing, thank you so much for your time, and I wish you the best for this season!
MOLSI: Thank you!
