How Many People Play Fortnite? Player Count In 2023

Fortnite has been a force to be reckoned with, and its legacy has been truly a rollercoaster ride. From the game’s sudden rise to popularity back in 2017 to its now iconic status in pop culture in 2023, both the game as well as its player base have evolved with the passage of time.

Considering that Fortnite is free-to-play and its format is hyper-competitive, it comes as a surprise to no one that the game is so popular and has a large community of players. Epic Games also continuously comes up with different ways to get players excited regarding content.

Epic has also organized several different collaborations and crossovers with famous mainstream names such as Travis Scott, Marvel, and Ariana Grande, just to name some.

There is tons of work that is still going into Fortnite. Moreover, Chapter 4 has got the players quite excited and has made them fall in love with the game all over again.

All of this begs the question: How many people play Fortnite as we are well into 2023? Is the Battle Royale title slowly dying, or on a ladder that keeps going up? Keep reading this article to check out what the stats say!

Fortnite Player Count In 2023

Similar to tons of other famous game publishers, Epic does not share their Fortnite player count information with the community on a regular basis. So, it is difficult to get an exact number, but there are still some pieces of information out there.

Epic Games reported back in 2020 that there were more than 350 million registered users on Fortnite, and that number rose to 400 million by 2021. It is most likely that the number went even higher in 2022, even though there haven’t been any official numbers yet.

This list of registered users will also obviously include people who signed up and only ever played one or two games. Therefore, it is not essentially reflective of the number of people who actively play Fortnite on a regular basis.

For that information, you can look at a website such as ActivePlayer. According to their numbers, Fortnite witnessed an average of 229 million monthly players in the last 30 days as of right now, with the peak player number in a single day reaching 15.3 million.

However, it is important to note that this figure is a third-party estimate and has not come directly from Epic Games, so it is tricky to say if it is completely accurate, but it is the closest we have got to a real-time player count for now.

Also, it is worth pointing out that these figures can easily increase dramatically when Fortnite hosts live events. During the Chapter 2 Season 4 finale event, for instance, 15.3 million concurrent players participated in helping to defeat Marvel villain Galactus.

Is Fortnite slowly dying?

It is safe to say that Fortnite is not dying, at least not yet, since the game has had millions of players logging in every single day throughout 2022, and live events are getting tons of attention. Even when the game is going through a quiet month, it is still a hugely popular game.

Even though Fortnite did suffer through a tough period towards the end of Chapter 2, players are returning back to the game after the release of Chapter 4, which introduced many new and exciting weapons, dirt bikes, and a lot more.

The previously added Dragon Ball Super crossovers also brought plenty of hype to Fortnite, as anime fans naruto-ran back to Fortnite to buy skins and unlock cosmetics. So, it appears that Epic Games Battle Royale title is here to stay for quite a long time.

Despite whether Fortnite is growing or shrinking, its impact on gaming culture will continue forever, even if the island (or Jonesy) does not.
