Finally Open World RPG To Play With Friends on Low End PCs

Upcoming fantasy RPG Outward 2 is taking a very different approach to PC requirements by introducing a dedicated “potato mode” for players without high-end hardware.
As modern games continue pushing graphical realism further, PC requirements have become increasingly expensive.
Recently, games like The Blood of Dawnwalker drew attention for requiring extremely powerful GPUs to fully experience the game in 4K.
But Outward 2 is going in the opposite direction.
Outward 2’s potato mode supports very old PCs
According to a recent YouTube showcase from Nine Dots Studio, the game includes a graphics preset specifically built for aging systems that fall below normal minimum specifications.
The mode reportedly only requires:
- GeForce GTX 750 Ti
- AMD FX-6300 CPU
- 8GB RAM
Using those specs, the game targets roughly 1280x720 at 30 FPS.
That means players with PCs that are nearly a decade old can still run the RPG without needing expensive upgrades.
Graphics take a hit, but performance stays smooth
In the showcase video, a mascot named “Mr. Potato” demonstrates the game running on the lower-end settings compared to maximum graphics.
As expected, the potato mode dramatically lowers texture quality, lighting, and draw distance. However, gameplay still appears smooth and fully functional despite the visual downgrade.
The feature immediately caught attention online as more AAA releases continue demanding increasingly expensive hardware.
Even co-op works in potato mode
One of the more surprising details is that the low-end mode also fully supports multiplayer.
The developers even gave it a playful name: “couch potato co-op.”
Players using the lower graphics settings can still team up with friends, explore the world together, and fight enemies without needing stronger hardware.
