Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sales Lagging Behind its Predecessor, Says Analyst

The eagerly anticipated RPG, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has not met sales expectations, selling only half as many copies as its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, did during the same launch period. Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad highlighted these figures, noting a potential weak sales continuation for Rebirth compared to the robust performance of Remake.

Rebirth, which continues the storyline from Remake, has faced challenges despite its critical acclaim. Some factors influencing its underperformance include its exclusive availability on PS5 and timing differences; Remake launched in April 2020 when global lockdowns due to COVID-19 likely boosted gaming activities. Moreover, the economic landscape has shifted significantly since then, with current cost of living crises potentially affecting consumer spending on games.

Despite the sales shortfall, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has received strong reviews, praising it as an outstanding continuation of the beloved series. However, Ahmad points out that the sales trend might be concerning, especially with another sequel anticipated. This could impact the long-term strategy for the franchise, which remains one of the most iconic in the gaming industry.

As the situation unfolds, fans and industry watchers alike are keen to see how Square Enix will address these challenges in their upcoming releases and strategies.
