What is Secure Boot?

Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) are security features built into Windows 11. Think of them as security guards for your computer, making sure that only safe and trusted programs run on your system.

VALORANT requires both Secure Boot and TPM because they help Vanguard (VALORANT’s anti-cheat system) verify that your PC is secure. This is one of the ways the game prevents cheaters from gaining an unfair advantage.

Windows 11 usually has Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 turned on by default. But if you’re getting a VAN9001 or VAN9003 error when trying to play VALORANT, that means something is off, and you’ll need to fix it. Don’t worry—it’s a simple process!

How to Enable Secure Boot and TPM

This fix involves going into your computer’s BIOS settings. It might sound complicated, but if you follow these steps exactly, you’ll be fine.

Step 1: Find Your BIOS Key

Before doing anything, you need to know how to enter your computer’s BIOS. Different computers use different keys, but common ones include:

  • F1, F2, F10, F12, Del, or Esc

If your mouse doesn’t work in the BIOS menu, don’t worry—just use your keyboard’s arrow keys to navigate.

Step 2: Enable Secure Boot

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. As your PC starts up, keep pressing the BIOS key (try pressing it multiple times to make sure you don’t miss the short window).
  3. Once inside the BIOS menu, go to the Boot Options tab.
  4. If you don't find the Boot Options, you may need to switch to "Advanced Mode" which is usually done by pressing F7 or clicking on it.
  5. Look for Secure Boot and turn it ON.
  6. Make sure the Boot Mode (also called Boot Protocol) is set to UEFI.

Step 3: Enable TPM

  1. In the BIOS menu, find the Security tab.
  2. Locate TPM State and set it to Enabled.

Alternatively, since each motherboard has a different bios, you can use the "Search" feature which is usually an icon on top of the screen to find whatever you're looking for. In our case, just search Secure Boot.

Once you’ve done this, save your settings and restart your PC. Now, VALORANT should run without any issues!
