Riot Games Ends Partnership with Movistar KOI in VCT EMEA

Riot Games has officially announced the termination of Movistar KOI’s partnership with the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) EMEA.
The decision comes as a result of a breach of contractual agreement between the organization and the league, bringing Movistar KOI’s time in the VCT to an end.

As part of this move, players currently under Movistar KOI will become free agents at the conclusion of the season.
Normally, roster moves are restricted by the VCT Transfer Window, but Riot is making an exception.
To ensure that affected players can find new opportunities, an exemption has been granted that allows them to be signed outside of the official transfer period.
This exception will remain in place until the window officially reopens.
Riot Games clarified that this decision only affects Movistar KOI’s involvement in the VCT EMEA. The organization will still be allowed to compete in other Riot titles and competitions.
For example, Movistar KOI Fénix will continue playing in Challengers EMEA Spain: Rising, unaffected by this ruling.
Looking ahead, a new team will replace Movistar KOI in the VCT EMEA starting in the 2026 season.
Riot Games confirmed that potential replacements are currently being evaluated and a decision will be communicated to the community at a later date.
Importantly, the change does not impact the Ascension EMEA system, which will continue to promote two teams into the league, ensuring the VCT EMEA maintains twelve teams going into 2026.
