Arc Raiders Announce Big Changes To Update System

Embark Studios has announced that it’s moving away from monthly updates for ARC Raiders in favor of larger content drops released twice a year.
Throughout 2026, the extraction shooter received a major update almost every month, adding everything from new weapons to the Riven Tides map. However, parts of the community felt the updates were too small to keep players engaged for long periods.
Now, the developers say they’re changing direction to focus on bigger, more meaningful expansions instead of smaller monthly patches.
Next Arc Raiders update arrives in October
In a recent blog post, Embark Studios explained the reasoning behind the shift:
“Going forward, we’ve made the decision to release major updates twice a year – larger in scale, more impactful, with the goal to genuinely change how you play the game.”
The studio confirmed that regular live updates will still continue between major releases, including bug fixes, balancing changes, and limited-time events.
According to the developers, the extra development time will also help improve some of the game’s core systems, including progression, economy balancing, fair play measures, and anti-cheat support.
“This additional development space also allows us to invest more deeply in the health of ARC Raiders, from progression and economy balancing to fair play and anti-cheat efforts,” the post continued.
Frozen Trail update revealed
Embark also confirmed that the next major update, titled Frozen Trail, is scheduled to launch in October.
The update is expected to introduce:
- A brand-new map
- The “most ambitious ARC Operation so far”
- An improved skill tree
- Additional gameplay systems and content
Interestingly, the Frozen Trail name appears to match details from an earlier leak surrounding the game’s next region.
That leak claimed the map would feature locations like a supermarket and observatory, alongside a clan system and a new UFO-inspired enemy type tied to the Shrouded Sky storyline.
Community reactions are mixed
The decision has already divided the ARC Raiders community.
Some players support the “quality over quantity” approach, believing larger updates could make the game feel fresher for longer periods.
Others are concerned that longer waits between major content drops could hurt player retention and cause activity numbers to dip between seasons.
