Everything You Need to Know About Stretched Resolution in Valorant

Stretched Resolutions are a hot topic when it comes to Tactical First Person Shooter, and for good reason. Today we will delve into how you can play on a stretched resolution on Valorant, bust the myths, and introduce you to the “True Stretched” resolution. Let’s get right into it:

How To Play Stretch Resolution

Especially in Valorant, this could not be more straightforward. You are a few clicks away from switching to your preferred stretched, here’s how you can do it:

  • Launch up Valorant, head over to the settings menu
  • Navigate to “Video” and then to “General
  • There, you will be able to select a resolution, make sure you choose “Fullscreen” with any stretched res you like. (Popular option among the community: 1280 x 1024 5:4)
  • Press apply and now you are set on a “stretched” resolution.

Black Bars

Now after following those steps, you might not find your game particularly “stretched” as there is an issue where you will just get black bars. Don’t worry, the solution is simple:

  • Open your NVIDIA Control Panel
  • Under “Display” Navigate to “Adjust Desktop Size And Position”

    disp
  • On the Select A Scaling Mode, choose “Full Screen” and hit the Apply button
  • Save Changes and now head back to Valorant to test if you still have the issue.

Is Stretched Resolution A Myth?

Pretty sure you have heard something along the lines of “Stretched doesn’t work in Valorant” from your favorite pro or streamer. On the opposite side, there are a handful of people playing on Stretched Res, so what’s the matter?

Most players and pros that use stretched res, come from Counter-Strike, where changing your resolution gives you a slight advantage as it widens player modules. However, this is not the case for Valorant.

In Valorant, all resolutions will give you the same view, with no advantage whatsoever. So why do people still use it? You could call it a habit. If you are a pro playing for years on said resolution, you could still continue to play on it with no problems.

So yes, you can play stretched, but it will not create any advantage and it is purely based on your preference.

True Stretched

Ever stumbled upon the “True Stretched” term? People in the Valorant community found their way around Riot’s strict ruling of having no unfair advantages by changing your resolution. Through the usage of some third-party apps, it is possible to make stretched res work in the game.

However, this puts your account at risk of getting banned, Riot made it clear that any third-party software that genuinely overrides the resolution rules they set, is bannable, so use at your own risk.
