Hytale Revived as Hypixel Reacquires the Game From Riot

Hytale has officially returned from the brink. Hypixel has regained full ownership of the long-running sandbox project after Riot Games canceled development earlier this year, delivering a major comeback for a game many thought was gone for good.
Riot ended all work on Hytale and began closing down Hypixel Studios on June 23, 2025, bringing an abrupt end to nearly a decade of development on the Minecraft-style title.
The Community Fought Back
After the cancellation sparked a strong community reaction, Hypixel founders Simon Collins-Laflamme and Philippe Touchette approached Riot with an offer to buy back the project.
The deal went through without full insight into the state of the codebase, and the team confirmed that Hytale is now fully independent, with no investors or publishers involved.
More than 30 former Hytale developers have already been rehired, and the founders have pledged personal funding to keep development alive for the next ten years.
An early access release date will be announced in November. Players are being told to expect a raw and unfinished version filled with bugs, unbalanced content, and frequent updates that may break systems as development evolves.
Simon Collins-Laflamme shared the news on X with a short message: “We did it. Hytale is saved. We have acquired Hytale from Riot Games.” He also promised that there will be “no more waiting” and that fans will get to play the game with all its rough edges intact.
Development moving forward will focus on transparency, fast iteration, and direct community involvement. Patch notes will be open and frequent, and the team will remain intentionally small to allow rapid updates.
Hytale is now entering a multi-year early access cycle shaped heavily by community feedback, with Hypixel aiming to deliver the long-promised experience piece by piece using the decade of secured funding.
