Mega Evolution represents the pinnacle of PvE damage scaling in Pokémon GO, granting your party members elevated attack stats and delivering bonus candy multipliers during wild catch sessions.

Because Niantic rotates four-star and five-star Mega Raids on a bi-weekly cadence, keeping pace with the pokemon go mega raid schedule ensures you never miss critical Mega Energy windows.

Here is the active Mega Raid rotation calendar, boss weaknesses, and top battle counters.

Top Counters for Featured Mega Bosses

Lining up appropriate attackers allows groups of two to three trainers to defeat Mega encounters before raid timers expire:

1. Mega Banette & Mega Gengar (Ghost Weakness)

  • Top Attackers: Tyranitar (Bite / Brutal Swing), Hydreigon (Bite / Brutal Swing), Groudon (Mud Shot / Precipice Blades), Shadow Mewtwo (Psycho Cut / Psystrike).

  • Strategy: Mega Gengar hits hard but possesses low base Defense. Exploit its Poison typing by deploying heavy Ground or Psychic anchors to avoid fainting out early.

2. Mega Kangaskhan & Mega Lopunny (Fighting Weakness)

  • Top Attackers: Terrakion (Double Kick / Sacred Sword), Keldeo (Low Kick / Sacred Sword), Machamp (Counter / Dynamic Punch), Conkeldurr (Counter / Dynamic Punch).

  • Strategy: Standard Fighting types completely dismantle Normal-type raid bosses. Terrakion remains the fastest counter in the game thanks to the short animation cycle and high base power of Sacred Sword.

How to Maximize Mega Energy Farming

Mega Energy is calculated based on how quickly your group finishes the encounter:

  • Speed Multiplier: Defeating the boss in under 30 seconds awards the maximum payout of 200 to 250 Mega Energy, while prolonged battles dropping toward the timer limit decrease rewards to 150 energy.

  • Walking Your Buddy: Once you have Mega Evolved a species at least once, that evolutionary line is unlocked in your Mega Pokédex. Walking with any Pokémon from that family (such as walking with a regular Gastly after Mega Evolving Gengar) generates 5 Mega Energy per kilometer walked, allowing you to bypass raid gates entirely for future evolutions.

  • Free Cooldowns: As your Mega Level progresses from Base to High and Max Level, the mandatory rest period between free Mega Evolutions drops from seven days down to three days, eliminating energy costs for routine gameplay.
