Modern Warfare 2 released some new and exciting mechanics within the game, such as perk packages and snaking. They also changed some of the old ones, and their player base is quite hooked to the game and interested in exploring some of these mechanics.

As of late, the players have been talking a lot about the Loudness Equalization in the game. But what exactly is this feature, how does it work, and why has it proven to be controversial? We will be answering all of your questions in this article, so keep reading!

Modern Warfare 2 Loudness Equalization Explained

Players can enable the Loudness Equalization in Modern Warfare 2, which is a PC audio setting. As it is a PC audio setting, players who play on a console do not have this option available to them, so Xbox and PlayStation users are unable to make the most of it.

When you have equipped the default audio, enemy footsteps and direction are automatically obscured by other sounds and some degree of subjectivity.

Nevertheless, when players equip the Loudness Equalization, it balances the audio direction and enemy noise. The feature makes the enemies’ footsteps clearer and easier to locate, therefore, players have the ability to pre-aim and anticipate opponents as they approach.

How To Turn Loudness Equalization On In MW2

It is pretty simple to turn the audio setting on in Modern Warfare 2. As mentioned above, it cannot be enabled on any console, but for PC players, it can be easily enabled by following the steps that are given below:

  1. Right-click on the speaker present on your taskbar and go to Sounds.
  2. Go over to the Playback tab, where you will find the device with a green tick mark (Your default device).
  3. Right-click that device and go over to Properties and click on it.
  4. Click on the Enhancements tab.
  5. Ensure that the Loudness Equalization setting is turned on.
  6. Select OK to confirm the settings.
  7. Head on over into a game with the enhanced audio.
  8. In order to turn this setting back off, simply follow the steps and disable the Loudness Equalization option.

Why Is It Controversial? Loudness Equalization In The CDL

Why is this setting controversial if it is a pretty good way to reconfigure one’s audio? That is one question that is being asked quite a lot by the fans. The answer is that the setting is considered overpowered, which makes it very easy to hear and anticipate enemy positions and movements.

Players who are regular in Modern Warfare 2 and play it often can make full use of this setting. However, in the Call of Duty League, it is not that easy. At LAN events, the PCs used are uniform and equipped with predetermined and consistent settings.

However, we cannot say the same when it comes to online matches such as the CDL Qualifiers. In these matches, there is no way to make sure that the players are not using the audio setting, and it is technically allowed as an optional audio setting.

We have already witnessed OpTic Texas’ Scump and Shotzzy criticize the “scumbags” using it. Moreover, other pros, such as Scrappy, have blasted pros that knowingly use the Loudness Equalization audio settings.

There are months of the Modern Warfare 2 CDL season remaining, and we are sure that this topic will continue to be a fiercely debated one!
