How To Fix Discord Icon Not Loading

If you’ve opened Discord and noticed that the server icons or user avatars aren’t loading, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Especially right now as it's happening to many users recently so It’s a pretty common issue and luckily, there are a bunch of things you can try to fix it:
Restart Discord
This might sound too simple, but sometimes all it takes is a quick restart. Close Discord completely (make sure it’s not still running in the background), and then open it again.
-
On Windows, you can right-click the Discord icon in the system tray and click "Quit Discord".
-
Then reopen it from your Start Menu or desktop shortcut.
Sometimes a small glitch just needs a reset.
Check Your Internet Connection
Slow or spotty internet can prevent images and icons from loading properly.
Here’s what to check:
-
Try opening another website or app to see if it’s loading normally.
-
If things are slow, restart your Wi-Fi router or switch to a different network.
-
If you're using mobile data, check your signal strength or try switching to Wi-Fi.
Switch Between Discord App and Browser Version
Sometimes the issue is just with the Discord app.
Try this:
-
Log into your Discord account at https://discord.com using a web browser like Chrome or Firefox.
-
If icons load there, the problem is probably with the app on your computer or phone.
If it works fine on the browser, you can:
-
Keep using the browser temporarily.
-
Or uninstall and reinstall the desktop/mobile app (we’ll cover that in step 7).
Clear Discord Cache (It Helps A Lot)
Corrupted or outdated cache files can cause weird bugs like missing icons.
Here’s how to clear the cache (on Windows):
-
Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
-
Type:
appdata%/discord/Cache
and hit enter -
Select all files in the folder and delete them.
Don’t worry, this won’t delete your messages or servers. It just resets cached files that might be causing problems.
Check Discord Server Status
Sometimes it’s not you, it’s Discord.
Go to https://discordstatus.com and check if Discord is having issues, especially with image delivery or CDN (Content Delivery Network). If there's a problem on their end, all you can really do is wait it out.
Turn Off Any VPN or Proxy
If you’re using a VPN or a proxy server, that might mess with how Discord loads images and icons.
Try turning off your VPN or proxy temporarily and restart Discord to see if that fixes the issue.
Reinstall Discord
If nothing has worked so far, it might be time to reinstall Discord.
On Windows
-
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
-
Find Discord and uninstall it.
-
Go to discord.com/download and reinstall it fresh.
On Mobile
-
Just delete the app and reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play.
