Not all chests will give you good loot, so you should keep searching them until you find good weapons. You should also look for Legendary Chests, which give Epic or better loot.

Another tip to follow when looting is to be clever with your weapons. You should only pick up weapons you can confidently use. For example, if you usually use the Auto Shotgun in Fortnite, then don’t be greedy if you find an Epic or Legendary Two-Shot Shotgun. An uncommon Auto Shotgun is more valuable to you than an Epic Two-Shot Shotgun if you don’t know how to use it.
