Cypher Setups And Lineups

Not only will be diving into specific Cypher setups to use on this map, but we will also cover some important lineups and plays that you can make using your utility. This will go over timings, attacking and defensive game styles, proper decision-making, utility usage and more. Here are the best and most optimal ways to benefit from playing a sentinel like Cypher during your games:

A Site

What Does It Cover: This setup on A site will be perfect for stopping enemies storming site for full control as it challenges anyone crossing by the Pyramids and limits enemies to early site control only.

When To Use It: Best used when you are looking to retain control of Back site by taking aggressive yet safe duels that are totally to your advantage.

What Makes It Good: This setup will help you stop fast entering duelists from storming as it places down too many obstacles forcing them to think twice before entering your territory.

To do it, place both of your trips by the pyramids and place your cages on the trips to get easy kills of it. Then finally, your cam on high ground back site.

B Rat

What Does It Cover: This is a rat cage, which means it’s intended to get used for sneaky plays. By using this cage, you create a little corner that enemies might oversee and this could be your chance to pop off at any given round.

When To Use It: Best used as an alternative to placing your setups or when you don’t have much utility to place down as this is perfect for eco rounds.

What Makes It Good: Done in low risk rounds, this can overturn the result of an eco round with optimal risks to the plays you’re making.

To do this cage, simply throw it by the corner like in the picture. Enemies might think you’re back site, but in reality, you will be hiding in that little corner you created.

B One Way

What Does It Cover: Another insanely useful cage to use is this one way that will help you shoot anyone trying to come out of B main into B site.

When To Use It: Best used if you know enemies walk recklessly out of B main as this will help you punish them a lot faster.

What Makes It Good: It is a one way, meaning it’s a one sided fight to your advantage.

To do it, come over to this corner and aim your crosshair just as in the picture. Then, throw your cage without jumping and it should land at the little ledge giving you an amazing one way. You can do it on the other side too.

B Site Hold

What Does It Cover: This setup on B site will instantly place a struggle for anyone trying to cross to B site. More specifically aimed at anyone going out for deep control or back site control.

When To Use It: Best used when you want to retain back site and pillar to your control to stop enemies from having a successful post plant.

What Makes It Good: Best part about this setup is your ability to make any retake easier for your teammates even when losing site control.

Place your tips down blocking back site and past B pillar, then place your cages accordingly and finally your cam on a high spot in back site to ensure a good view on crossing enemies.

Pro Tips

  • As a Cypher, you should always prioritize hiding spots when playing site. You are a sentinel, there are very little scenarios where it’s reasonable for you to peek mid or die first in your team. Always look for positions to keep yourself last alive on site fighting until the very last bit.

  • During the buy phase, you can pick up your cages when thrown incorrectly. So if you ever miss a lineup before the round starts, don’t worry, just pick it back up and give it another shot before the round starts. When it does, you will be only able to activate it instead of taking it back.

  • To get the most benefit out of your utility, always focus on combining your kit’s abilities together so you can create immersive plays. Such as combining your trip wire with a cyber cage, this allows for a one-sided duel where you can see and shoot enemies that don’t know about you.

  • Make sure you always alternate between your setups as if you do it repeatedly enemies can get used to it and counter your gameplan. Switching up your wire or cam positions can be a huge game changer as it adds a lot of unpredictability for you.

  • As a Cypher, your goal is to defeat the attacking line or delay them from getting site control for as much as possible so your teammates can rotate. This means you should always place your utility to retain early control of site, even if you are alone. There are exceptions such as when enemies have ultimates that heavily counter you.

  • Be creative with your setups and plays, you don’t need to follow a specific rulebook when playing Cypher. Instead, you should innovate and try new things every now and then to figure out a perfect playstyle for you.

  • Remember to pick up your utility when you can as it can be insanely helpful late rounds such as picking up your cam or trip wires when you know enemies are on the opposite site so you won’t be getting use of them unless you re-use it somewhere else.
